Hollywood Primary School, Birmingham, have certainly responded to the DFE’s August 2018 initiative to effectively manage their resources ( y93d6jk5). They were recently approached by a local Community Nursery to see if it would be possible to convey lunches to them. Hollywood Primary already convey meals to another Infant School, so knew they had the capacity and experience to take up the request. Previously, the Community Nursery had received a limited snack-style lunch but Hollywood proposed a 3 week menu offer and an increased portion size for the Nursery pupils which means they are now getting a much improved lunch that represents value for money. For Hollywood Primary, the extra school lunches means an additional income to their catering budget.

Since taking their catering in-house in April 2018, with the assistance of CMC, the catering team at St. John’s Primary Academy in Stafford, have used their initiative to boost lunch sales. They recently held a Father’s Day lunch week, inviting dads throughout the school to come in and sample lunch with their children. The week was a big hit, not only did it showcase their new menu range but it also generated an additional income of £250.00 after costs.

After some dissatisfaction with our catering division, we invited providers to outline how they could meet our needs. CMC’s MD, Gary Stewart, created financial projections and showed us how to achieve our vision of lunchtime as an integral part of the day. It became evident that nutritional value and balanced meals were priority within the remit of ensuring financial viability. We ensured that CMC had the credibility to meet our requirements and examined with them the pitfalls.
CMC gave us the confidence to manage our catering in house with their support. In April 2017, we launched with new exciting menus. Guest chefs gave parents and pupils tasting opportunities. Our named consultant, Steve Evans, a genuinely valued colleague and regular face in school, is a real asset in supporting, advising and encouraging us.
Our first year has seen an increased uptake in meals which has allowed us to reinvest in the service. We now have a happier catering team who seek to go the extra mile - but most important, satisfied pupils, staff and parents.

I have no hesitation in recommending CMC.
Shaun Miles - Head of St. Luke’s CE Primary School
